The 2023 Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic will take place Labor Day weekend — Aug. 31 through Sept. 3, 2023 — featuring HBCU colleges Morehouse College and Virginia Union University. The Virginia Union Panthers will be looking to duplicate their 2022 season success, which included a 9-1 finish led by returning All-American running back Jada Byers. Morehouse expects to improve on its 2022 campaign and avenge its close loss in the inaugural Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic in 2019. The 2023 Classic, presented by AEP Ohio, takes place on Sunday, Sept. 3, at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
The game will be the culmination of a weekend packed with all the experiences that a “classic” has to offer: VIP Reception, Battle of the Bands, Hall of Fame Tailgate Party including local food vendors, College and Career Fairs, Gospel Concert and other local events.
The Black College Football Hall of Fame was founded in 2009 by African-American pioneers and quarterbacks James Harris and Doug Williams to preserve the history and honor the greatest football players, coaches and contributors from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
This Classic is a way to help fund a permanent Black College Football Hall of Fame within the Pro Football Hall of Fame museum, as well as provide the residents of Northeast Ohio an opportunity to learn and experience the culture of HBCUs.
The majority of the events held during the Classic Weekend will be organized and run by local volunteers. If you would like to volunteer, we would love to have you! See the information below on how to join this exciting volunteer group and help make the 2023 Classic Weekend one to remember.
