Hank Stram was an assistant coach at the University of Miami before Lamar Hunt hired him as head coach of the Dallas Texans. The Texans moved to Kansas City in 1963 and were renamed the Chiefs.

The young Stram was an immediate winner in Dallas and won the 1962 AFL championship.

An innovative coach, Stram developed the "moving pocket," devised the two-tight end offense, and "stack defense."

Stram became the only coach in AFL history to take his team to two Super Bowls, losing to the Green Bay Packers in Super Bowl I, and defeating the Minnesota Vikings 23-7 in Super Bowl IV.

After 15 seasons in Dallas/Kansas City, Stram coached two years in New Orleans (1976-77).

Stram coached five Chiefs Hall of Famers. On January 25, 2003 he was selected to become their Hall of Fame teammate.
